Hey, have you ever walked on water? No — me either.
Today’s devotional is called “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” It comes from Proverbs 3:5–6 and it’s about trusting God’s direction.
We’re in 21 days of prayer and fasting, seeking God’s direction for the new year, and we’re up to day nine.
When I think about trusting God’s direction, I think about not leaning on my own understanding. So often we try to figure things out and make it work in our own minds. But God has a way of making two plus two equal five. Sometimes He turns the natural into the supernatural.
For example, Peter in the Bible was called by Jesus to step out of the boat and walk on water when Jesus came to him walking on the sea. Jesus said, “Peter, I want you to walk like I’m walking.” The call to be a Christian is to walk and follow Jesus.
As Peter stepped out of the boat, he discovered he could walk on the water because Jesus called him. Of course, everyone knows he started to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus, and there’s a whole message in that. But don’t miss this — he still walked on water.
I want to encourage you, as we seek God during these 21 days of prayer and fasting: this is the year to walk above things other people would sink in. To walk above things you would usually sink in — depression, anxiety, and the things that hold us down.
Why? Because your gaze is fixed on the One who calls you to walk on water. His name is Jesus, and He is calling you into His direction.
Don’t lean on your own understanding.
God bless you on day nine.
