February Prayer & Fasting Day 12

Hey, welcome to day 12 of our 21 days of prayer and fasting here at Perth Hills Church.

I want to encourage you with today’s devotional, which is all about walking in humility.

Often in the Old Testament, when we see the people of God humbling themselves, it was expressed through fasting and prayer. Fasting is a way of humbling ourselves before God.

The Bible teaches us to humble ourselves — we don’t want God to humble us. It’s something we choose to do, because Scripture promises that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

I don’t know about you, but I need the grace of God every day. God’s grace empowers us.

One of the biggest things that holds us back from God’s best for our lives is pride. Pride was the original sin that caused Lucifer to fall, and it can quietly sit under the surface of our lives. It may not be obvious, but pride is like a cancer of the soul that slowly eats away.

When we humble ourselves before God in prayer and fasting, it pushes pride aside and makes us more like Jesus.

Think about Jesus — the King of Kings and Lord of Lords — yet when He came to earth, He humbled Himself and came as a man to connect with us. In John 13, He did something incredible: He washed His disciples’ feet. In that culture, foot washing was the job of the lowest servant.

Jesus said, “I did not come to be served, but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for many.”

Let’s be like Jesus. The goal of fasting and prayer is not discipline. The goal is not fasting itself. The goal is not to be the skinniest church in Perth.

The goal is spiritual growth and intimacy with Him.

God bless you today — walking in humility.
