February Prayer & Fasting Day 6

Good morning.

My name is Brad. I’m the shearing pastor and also pastor of Perth Hills Church here in the Perth Hills.

We are on a journey of 21 days of prayer and fasting. You can download the devotional booklet we’re using from the Kalamunda Church website under the resources section: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting.

We are currently in a season of rebranding as Perth Hills Church, reflecting more of who we are and what God is doing among us.

Today is day six, and this is one of my favourite devotions. It’s called Daily Dependence.

Our scripture reading is Matthew 4:4 where Jesus said, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

I want to encourage you today: your life does not come from your past, from what people say about you, or from what has happened to you. When you trust God, your life comes from His Word. His Word over your life is truth, and it is good.

Jesus spoke this passage while He was praying and fasting. Before beginning His public ministry, He went into a private place to seek God, fasting for 40 days in the wilderness. During that time, the tempter came and said, “Turn these stones into bread. You’re hungry. Perform a miracle.” But Jesus responded, “Man does not live by bread alone.” He was saying, “I don’t need that for life. Life comes from the Word of God.”

When we pray and fast, we position ourselves to step into the next season God has for us. I believe that during this time of prayer and fasting, God will reveal new assignments and direction for many people. This year can be a new season for your life, your family, and your future.

In the Old Testament, when God led the children of Israel through the wilderness, He fed them by raining manna — bread from heaven. But the manna only lasted for one day. If they collected more, it spoiled. Why? Because God was teaching a principle: to walk by faith is not to walk by sight.

We want to see the whole map and know what the future holds, but God calls us to trust the One who holds the future. Faith is taking the next step, then another step, and learning daily dependence on Him.

Daily dependence is a powerful and secure place to live because we are not relying on circumstances — we are trusting the One who holds our future.

God bless you today on day six: daily dependence.
