February Prayer & Fasting Day 4

Welcome to day four of our 21 days of prayer and fasting here at Perth Hills Church. I hope you’re going well.

Today’s devotion is about being still before God. In a world that is hurried, worried, and fast, being still can be a real challenge. But fasting and prayer create a way for us to slow down.

Our scripture today is Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God.”

I love the thought that stillness and waiting on God comes before the knowledge God wants us to have.

As you fast and pray — as you push away the plate and spend time in His presence — something begins to slow down on the inside. You can put on noise-cancelling headphones and block outside sounds, but there is still often noise within: thoughts, fears, worries about the future, and all the things that need to be done.

When you fast and pray, something inside becomes still, and you gain a fresh sensitivity to God’s voice. That’s why the psalmist says, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Elijah, the Old Testament prophet, heard God’s voice, but it wasn’t in the dramatic things — not in the earthquake, the wind, or the fire. It was in a still, small voice, a whisper.

When someone whispers to you, they don’t want everyone else to hear. To catch the whisper, you don’t ask them to speak louder — you lean in, you stop, you listen, and you become attentive.

Fasting and prayer is one of the fastest ways to become attentive to what God is speaking to you.

My prayer today is that as you are still, you would know God, know His will, and receive clarity about what He wants you to do in the days ahead.

Father, I pray for every person listening — whether they know You, follow You, or are seeking You — that they would be still in this moment. Holy Spirit, direct them with the knowledge of God. Lead and guide us into everything You have for us in 2026, as we lean in to hear Your whisper.

God bless you.
