February Prayer & Fasting Day 10

Hey, is the Bible just full of rules and do's and don'ts?

Many people think their perception of God is like a judge sitting in the sky looking to punish bad behaviour, wanting to modify behaviour and remove all the fun from people’s lives. But that couldn’t be further from the truth of the God of the Bible.

God is not a religious God, but a relational God. From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, He desired relationship, and that’s what it is still about today.

We are in 21 days of prayer and fasting, and on day 10 we’re nearly halfway through.

Day 10 is about obedience from love.

Jesus said, “If you love Me, obey My commands.” That isn’t a threat. Rather, when you love God, you realise He is a Father who has your best interests at heart. Obedience doesn’t become a duty — it becomes a delight, especially when you experience the blessings of obedience.

I have four kids, and a little boy who is turning one this week.

When he goes to put his hand on a hot stove, I don’t just watch him do it. I don’t let him learn the hard way. I say no, move his hand away, and stop him from harming himself — not because I want him to obey rules, but because I love him. My love wants the best for him.

In the Bible, God shows us what is His will and what is not His will for our lives. When you follow Jesus, you discover His will is far better than anything we could ask, think, or imagine. He wants to bless you.

So today’s devotional is this: obedience out of love.
